We believe financial conversations between roommates should be completely confidential. Here is our direct, plain-English privacy commitment.

When you enter your lease rent, room sizes, salaries, or roommate names into My Rent Splitter, that data never touches our servers. All mathematical logic runs 100% locally via client-side JavaScript.
1. Zero Server-Side Financial Storage
Unlike traditional financial tools or rental management platforms, we do not have a user database storing your personal household figures:
- ✓No Accounts Required: You never create an account, enter a password, or verify an email.
- ✓No Backend Database: Your monthly rent, individual incomes, and room choices are not saved to a remote database.
- ✓No Selling of Data: Because we don't collect your data, we cannot and will never sell personal information to third parties, brokers, or advertisers.
2. How Shareable Links Work Securely
When you click "Copy Shareable Link" on any calculator, your calculation state is encoded directly into the URL parameters (query string):
When your roommates open this link, their browser reads the parameters and renders the exact breakdown client-side. The link belongs strictly to whoever you choose to share it with.
3. Cookies & Local Storage
We do not use invasive tracking cookies or cross-site fingerprinting. We use modern, minimal browser storage strictly for:
- Theme Preference: Storing your preferred dark mode or light mode setting in standard
localStorage. - No Third-Party Ad Cookies: We do not load third-party ad retargeting trackers or data broker scripts.
